First edition of FREDERICTON UNLOCKED a success!

Terry Seguin and the CBC Radio team returned to the airwaves this morning with 40 minutes of the kind of programming CBC listeners have been missing. Terry and Vanessa Blanch hosted Fredericton Unlocked, which will air every Friday at 7:30 a.m. on CHSR 97.9 FM. We'll feature a half-hour (or more) of interviews and information about stories taking place in the Fredericton area.

We have no way of measuring the number of listeners who tuned in this morning, but several people who passed the picket line later in the morning said they'd heard it. "It was so great to hear Terry and Vanessa this morning," one woman yelled as she pedalled by on her bicycle. We can tell you that, from our point of view, it was equally great to be bringing you a radio show again. Another measure of listener interest is that when we held a phone-in contest for Harvest Jazz and Blues tickets this morning, the phone lines filled up immediately with callers.

You can hear the show by clicking on the link under "podcasts" in the column at right, or by clicking right here.

Special thanks to Melissa Montgomery and everyone at the UNB campus station, CHSR, for making this possible. We'll be back on the air every Friday at 7:30 a.m. until the lockout ends.

We need you BACK! Shame on you, CBC powers that be, SHAME on you. You should be investing in your staff, not trying to cut their feet off. Canada needs a STRONG, dedicated and SECURE independent radio source, and I was once PROUD to say that our country's structure not only allowed for it, we held our CBC up as a shining example of what Canada really is. And now, you are trying to kill it. Shame... shame...

Early mornings have not been the same without a new and up to date CBC. I miss the smoothness of waking to Terry, his repartee with his crew and the news of the morning. Your finger on the pulse of the community is too damned important to be gone this long. Hurry back, oh dedicated workers, we support you and support you and support you. !!

I`m missing the CBC terribly...
There are dumb moves and then there are DUMB MOVES!.
This is the `New Coke` of Canadian Broadcasting...i my opinion...
Just shameful...and given how much money they will need to promote a new CBC season,if and when the lockout is over...and this was a move to save money?...
Where`s that ING Guy when you need him!

Just listened to the web version of this morning's show. Great job guys!! It was good to hear you back on the air. Here's hoping the corp comes to its senses and ends this lockout next week. Nice to see Andy Scott's comments too - maybe he can exert a little pressure in Ottawa to get things moving. Looking forward to the day when you're all back on air where you should be. Good luck and thanks for the effort in putting today's show together.
